Benko Gambit

💡 The Benko Gambit is an unusual gambit in which Black sacrifices a queenside pawn against 1.d4. It's named after Pal Benko, who popularized it, and it was also known as the Volga Gambit in the former Soviet Union. Most gambits aim for a quick attack, but the Benko is different: it builds pressure slowly using the open files. The battle is about whether White can hold on to the extra pawn and whether Black can keep up the pressure.
