Traxler Counterattack

💡 The Traxler Counterattack is a very sharp line in the Two Knights Defense, where Black answers White's 4.Ng5 attack on f7 with the counterattack 4...Bc5. It's named after Karel Traxler, a Czech priest who played it in the late 19th century, and it's also called the Wilkes-Barre Variation. Black gives up material to attack White's king, and if White doesn't respond accurately, White can be mated quickly. Theory considers it better for White, but it's very dangerous in practice.
