Grand Prix Attack

💡 The Grand Prix Attack is an aggressive system against the Sicilian starting with 2.Nc3 and 3.f4! The name comes from a series of weekend tournaments called the "Grand Prix" held in Britain in the 1970s-80s, where this variation was used frequently with great results. Pushing f4 secures attacking space on the kingside, and White's plan involves Nf3-Bc4-O-O with the knight and bishop targeting f7. The biggest advantage is avoiding all the complex theory of the Open Sicilian while keeping an aggressive attacking stance. A practical and dangerous surprise weapon!
